Peace

Here is a quick sketch on the subject. Always thought that peace negotiations were like a big circus! Going on holidays tomorrow with no access to the net. Will post a finished version when I come back.

Help 2

Here is a second take on the HELP topic. This is a drawing I started before I knew what the subject was for this week. I rendered it in illustrator. When I first started my graphic design course I thought illustrator was the best software ever... Not so sure anymore...

Help

HELP!!!!!! Kept it simple (as always).
I might try to draw another illustration as I am officially on holidays.

Just in case I don't post anything before Xmas, I wish you all a great Festive season!

Mask

Mask...mmmmm. Thought of the carnival. Just been to Africa (was amazing by the way) so also thought of traditional ceremony masks... and then remembered that a few years ago everybody went nuts and there was a worldwide shortage of gas masks.
I drew this from a picture using a biro. I imported it in photoshop but didn't changed anything apart from the surround.

Might

Might... another word I wouldn't really use. I knew it mostly because of that movie with Jim Carrey (well, now it's a sign that you're raising the bar when you start using anything Jim Carrey as a reference!). I double checked it in the dictionary to see if there were other meanings to the word (might as well learn something) and found this expression: "they pulled with might and main". It did it for me... How many times have I been trying to get into a restaurant and pulled as hard as I could for 30s before someone came and pushed the door for me.... How desperate must have I looked!
Can anyone tell me if this expression is still being used?

I might try to render it later.
Have a mighty good week!

Invention

Invention! What a great thing! As a kid, I remember dreaming in front of Star Trek and Star Wars thinking that soon we would be able to do all those extraordinary things. How wrong was I!
The one I am most impatient to see is the teletransporter. Leaving in Australia, instead of flying 2 days to go home I could just press a button and go for dinner at my parents place! Awesome!!
And the shopping... Easy. Buy as much as you want. And the packing... easy too, not having to worry about luggage restrictions.... What a dream! The best invention ever!

Thanksgiving

Did you know that each year more than 45million turkeys are slaughtered for Thanksgiving!?
I thought I'd try to see the event from there perspective as thanksgiving is not something I have ever experienced (apart from seeing it movies - is that the holiday when families always seem to get together for a massive punch up?). Nevertheless, happy thanksgiving to all.

Clear

Holidays in France - Gazza thought the road was clear!

For those who don't know, in Australia they/we drive on the wrong side of the road!
Oh, and Gazza is short for Gary (not sure if that's the case anywhere else).
I've always found it annoying when traveling to England from France! Less than an hour flight but a hell of a difference!

Very late posting for this topic. Should never go on holidays!

Smoke

Being French, the issue of passive smoking is a real problem everytime I go back home on holidays!!

Wind

Here is a funny word.
When I learnt English, I was never taught that it also meant f... can I say it ... fart. As soon as someone told me, I loved it. I suppose it might be the imagery linked to it. Where I come from we face the Atlantic on one side and the Channel on the other (Brittany, Finistere, beautiful part of France). You can therefore imagine what the wind is like. Actually you know those famous posters of lighthouses being engulfed by the sea, well there are taken in Brittany.
So .... now, move that wind down to the middle part of your body (God I'm prude), and imagine my reaction when I was first told. I could just imagine that massive gail force wind coming out of someone's buttocks. Hi hi hi hi hi hi.
I might talk to the French Academy- they are in charge of the dictionary entries- to get that added to the French language!!!
Ok enough of those silly comments.

I never really considered drawing anything that had to do with the wind blowing something away... Not inspiring enough. I thought about that gail force wind but didn't have time to pull it together. So I just decided to find an unlikely subject (women don't fart) and an annoying situation (red carpet type evening - How Embarassing!!!).
I like my drawing better than my final illustration but I'm trying to improve my rendering in photoshop. So here you are....

Black and Orange

Penelope has created a competition for Halloween. The theme: Black and Orange.
Here is my entry. I drew the girl and couple of weeks ago but wasn't sure what to do with her. After I finished last week illustration for "Ghost" I thought it would be great to join the two characters in this entry.
Not totally satisfied with it but at least I give it more surroundings and background!

Ghost

This speaks to me a bit more than the previous topic!

I drew this ghost while being stuck for ideas working on a yearbook (first freelance job). I know he looks like a skeleton but lets not kid ourselves, decomposition is our future.... brrrrrrrrr!
This was the perfect opportunity to try to further my skills with markers - actually I should probably say "to develop skills". I used normal paper as I like the colours to bleed into each other and used only gray markers.

As often I got a bit stuck with the background/context. Any suggestions ?...

I willl probably try to improve it but quite like the look of him - he was killed in a saloon in the Far West and comes back to hunt all the drunken fools he finds on his path... mmmm could be the inspiration I was lacking to put him in context. I might work on the drunken fools! Still open for suggestions though...

Smitten

Ok! First problem: don't know what it means!
I had to go through the dictionary. At first I couldn't find it as you have to look under smite. Tell me if I start boring you... So next step, writing down all the definitions. Many choices... arghhhh... I decided to stay with the most obvious meaning (don't want to misintepret!).
Love hearts are not usually one of my themes (not exactly the romantic type...) but I deciced to give it a shot.
This time I brought my drawing into illustrator. I am not happy with the result but don't have anymore time to play around with it. I will try to improve it later and will post the result if it's any better!
It looks like a pattern is emerging... I'm unhappy/uninspired with/by the topic every second week!

Trouble

Trouble... that's the name I use to give my husband when we first met!... Couldn't really draw a picture of him though.
Decided that trouble would be as in "everyday domestic trouble", nothing too dramatic. This must have happened to me a hundred times. Trying to pile up as much as possible to do things fast and ending up with broken glass and a lot more to tidy up. First tried to render the drawing in colour pencil but still not very good at it, so reverted to photoshop. Also been wanting to do duo tone illustration for a while. I think this works even though I must admit I have tried many many colour combinations before getting to this near monochromatic render.

Quiet

I wasn't very inspired by this week's topic. Not a good sign, it's only week two for me!!
Decided that QUIET would be as in "quiet afternoon" and used a picture I took in Vanuatu as my inspiration. This is hand drawn and then slightly modified in photoshop.

Phobia

Here is my first post to Illustration Friday.

PHOBIA:
I first thought of spiders as they can be very scary especially when you live in Australia! but then decided to research the subject and found a comprehensive list of phobias at http://www.phobialist.com .
One of them inspired me as it holds a bit of a philosophical meaning (us French like to think we are philosophers): Anablephobia or the fear of looking up. So enjoy your day and start looking up!! The future is bright!
